About the Race
Started in 1983 by Covington Police Captain Willie David, Covington Police Department’s Fuzz Run serves as a fundraiser for the department’s Police Who Care Fund (PWC). From the beginning, the event has included a 5k race and a one-mile fun run that wind through the beautiful and historic town of Covington. From humble beginnings in the 1980s through the 1990s, the race has grown in size and popularity each year for the past couple of decades.
The long-time custom is for the Fuzz Run to be held on the second Saturday in September, and this year was no exception. About 3,000 participants and spectators came out on Saturday, September 14th to join in the fun and fundraising, making the Fuzz Run the biggest annual participatory event in the city. This popularity is reflected in the accolades that the race has received: for the past four years, the Fuzz Run has been voted “Best Race in Georgia” by participating runners.
